Transfers to Magnetic Island
Magnetic Island is unique in that
access from the Australian mainland is effortless, affordable and
convenient. All transport services to Magnetic Island depart from
Townsville - the "Capital" of North Queensland. A modern
tropical city, Townsville is the main hub of commerce, government
administration and communications for the region, so whether you
are travelling from overseas or from within Australia, transport
options are many and varied.
Just 8 kilometres off-shore, Magnetic Island is a short trip across
the sheltered waters of Cleveland Bay. Access is by passenger ferry,
car/passenger ferry, or water taxi. The water taxi is available
on an "as needed basis" and prior arrangement is required.

The ferry is operated by "Sunferries" running
transfers to Magnetic Island 7 days a week. The passenger
ferry makes up to 14 return trips daily.

Getting Around Magnetic Island
There are many ways of getting around
on the island. Brightly coloured "Mokes" (Leyland Mini
Moke, manual, max 4 passengers) have become apart of the island
lifestyle and are available for hire. So too are various other types
of cars (including 4WD and 5 seaters), scooters , four wheel drives,
scooters, trail bikes, and bicycles. Taxis and a very comprehensive
Bus Service operate 365 days of the year.

Bus Service
The local Magnetic Island bus service runs daily from
all major bays and comes complete with a friendly driver
whom will give you a colourful guided tour of all the
passing surroundings.
